Oak Lawn Park District Announces New Conservation Jamboree feat. Monarch Festival

Published 7/26/2024

We're taking Monarch Festival to new heights! Help us celebrate Oak Lawn’s natural beauty with this new family fun event, the Oak Lawn Park District Conservation Jamboree featuring Monarch Festival! This free event will be Saturday, September 21 from 11:00 am-2:00 pm at the Oak Lawn Park District Prairie (105th & Menard Ave.). Learn all about the Oak Lawn Park District’s efforts to preserve nature areas and our natural resources. This includes the migration of the monarch butterflies, protection of native plants to increase pollination, and overall recycling efforts.

This event will feature adult and family educational walks through the Oak Lawn Park District Prairie, fun games, crafts, vendors, music, giveaways, and pictures with our mascot, Duke Mallard!

“We are excited to build off the success that Monarch Festival has had over the years with this new event,” said executive director, Tom Hartwig. “There so much at the Oak Lawn Park District Prairie for people to learn about our conservation efforts in addition to what we do at the Park District for the Monarch Butterfly.”

Crayon Donation:

Help Duke collect used crayons so we can give them a new chapter in their illustrative journeys! We are collecting crayons to repurpose them for a fun giveaway!

·       How to donate:

From now until August 23, take your old crayons to any Park District Facility and place them in the Crayon Donation bin.

·       Why crayons?

Crayons are made from paraffin wax and pigmented colors/oils that do not decompose in natural elements, so we need your help to make sure we revive old crayons to be used to their fullest extent!

·       What are we doing with the crayons?

These recycled crayons will be made into fun shapes and colors to bring imagination to everyone’s coloring experience and will be given back out at the Oak Lawn Park Districts Conservation Jamboree!
