The Oak Lawn Park District has launched a program to encourage local artists to paint a mural to be displayed at the Community Pavilion (9401 S. Oak Park Ave.). The first mural painted was by recent Oak Lawn Community High School graduate, Heather Sterling.  The Park District is looking for more artists to paint a mural.

Heather Sterling, who graduated this past year from OLCHS, spend the better part of a year painting the Spartan mascot. Her painting the first of to be displayed and can be currently viewed on the west wall of the walking track. She is pursuing a career in the arts and plans on attending St. Xavier in the fall.

“We are proud of Heather and appreciative of the time and effort she put into her beautiful painting,” said Tom Hartwig, executive director. “We hope this is the first of many works of art to be displayed at one of our most popular locations. We are excited to see what our local art community produces and that we can help share their talents with the community.

The Community Pavilion Mural Project was created to bring together the art community by asking local artists to display their art on the walking track above the Arena at the Community Pavilion. If you know someone that is interested in painting a mural for this project, please email the Community Pavilion staff at pavilion@olparks.com.
