The 38-acre Centennial Park—located adjacent to the Community Pavilion at 93rd St. & Nashville Ave.—is the largest recreation park found in Oak Lawn.
Featuring plenty of open space, Centennial hosts adult softball leagues, adult sand-volleyball leagues, plus youth soccer and nerf-football programs. It also features a colorful playground and inline-skating court.
On the east end of the park, Centennial Family Aquatic Center is the place to be in the summertime with swimming, splash pad, learn-to-swim lessons, open-swim session and pool-party rentals.
Centennial Park underwent a major renovation, thanks to a $400,000 Open Space Land Acquisition Development (OSLAD) grant and $80,000 Department of Commerce &Economic Opportunity (DCEO) grant.
Renovations included four new softball fields that radiate out from a central concessions stand and bathroom facility, LED lighting throughout the park (LED sport lighting in the softball fields, sand volleyball courts, and inline hockey rink) and all new walking paths.
The sand volleyball court located along 93rd & Oak Park Ave., received an additional 3rd court along with new fencing, curbing, accessible pathways, and benches. Exercise stations have been added, the soccer field has been re-graded to increase storm-water retention, and an informational native tree area was planted on the east end.
